We stayed at the Residence for a family wedding that was held at Vrede & Lust. It is the most stunning home –  6 beautiful en-suite bedrooms, with magnificent views of the mountains. The living spaces open onto green lawns and a lake. We loved the setting, the mountains, the vineyards, it is breathtaking. Corné Yzel was our host. He and his staff went out of their way to help us. Breakfast is included and served on the patio and was stunning. This is an amazing venue for a family retreat or gathering of friends. Wow, what can I say. My new husband and I were lucky enough to host our intimate wedding at this beautiful villa and spend a whole week in pure luxury. The villa speaks for itself and the views are no short of spectacular from every single room. Corné was an absolute pleasure, him and his staff made our stay even more special with a 5 star breakfast everyday. The freshly baked muffins were a personal favorite. Corné was also always on hand to help us with any needs. It’s safe to say my dreams came true with our wedding and The Residence will hold a special place in our hearts forever.”

“Surrounded by some of the most spectacular landscape, this residence offers everything your heart desires and more. A quick drive from Cape Town – this was the perfect getaway with friends. The staff were all extremely helpful and efficient without encroaching on privacy. The home is spacious with each room beautifully decorated to make you feel right at home. We had the luxury of staying in the master suite which was simply exquisite and very private – with our own patio and stacking doors leading onto the rolling lawns and a view of the willow trees and dam.
Well thought through indoor and outdoor entertaining areas with indoor and outdoor surround sound, along with a well stocked bar, made it super easy to enjoy every minute of our stay. I wish we could have stayed for longer. We will definitely be back!”

A house you wished you owned

“I had the pleasure of staying here with my family recently. Each morning we woke up to a lovely 2-course English Breakfast, a roaring double fire place, and the most beautiful views with lemon trees and rose bushes around the property. The children were able to ride their bikes safely behind our gated drive way, explore along the pond, and play in the playground out front. We even took them for some tough hikes in the mountains. Night times we enjoyed our family gatherings around the braai and the children roasted their marshmallows before tucking away into their comfy little beds. The restaurant on the estate is amazing and a quick walk away for a great lunch. There are also discounted wine tastings available for residents. Corné at the estate does his best at all times to make sure that we are taken care of all day. He arranged all kinds of events, hot air balloon rides, yoga in the gym in the house and even a spa day for all the ladies in the house. This place truly feels like home.”

‘My family stayed at The Residence Vrede & Lust for two weeks in December 2019. I can honestly say this is one of the best holidays we as a family have ever had. The house is in the most beautiful location and is so spacious and so comfortable – it has every amenity you could want. If you want to leave the grounds it is easy to do many trips around the area which we really enjoyed. Corné is the most wonderful manager and host: incredibly efficient and hospitable and made our stay perfect. We really couldn’t have asked for anything more and we highly highly recommend staying here – we even had a ten-week old baby with us and Corné ensured we had everything we could possibly need for her. Breathtakingly Beautiful

“The pictures do not do this residence justice. Such a stunning picturesque setting in Franschhoek. A little piece of heaven where every part of the property is just superb. Attention to detail throughout the villa, the most amazing bedrooms and bathrooms. The walk-in closet in the master suite is simply amazing. The views are incredible! With so many areas to just relax and enjoy the setting. The braai lapa is where we spent most of our afternoon just enjoying the views and the music which can be heard through the villa. The outside bar area was the start for evening drinks and snacks, whilst a few friends enjoyed the sport on the large TV and lounge area. The property is well equipped with everything you require. A quick walk to the wine tasting room at Vrede & Lust was well enjoyed as well as the Bistro where we had breakfast in the morning. It’s a quick drive from Cape Town and to be able to enjoy that level of luxury so close to Cape Town . It’s a must! We will be back!!”

Better than the Rest

“12 of us visited and stayed In Franschoek for 4 nights in May, we wanted the trip to be special so booked the Residence and what a great decision! The location was perfectly located on the beautiful Vrede En Lust vineyard and just 10-15 mins from Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. The rooms are large and spacious with more communal areas than I remember, WiFi, TV, music, all the necessities – tastefully decorated and so comfortable with views over a private pond and garden with the mountains in the backdrop. Corne, Betty and Besty took great care of us and ensured or every need was met from a full English breakfast to stocked refrigerators with wine, beer and soft drinks. The place was so beautiful, homely and comfortable at times we didn’t want to leave at all and extended the stay by a night. We’ll definitely be going back!”

“We stayed here for a weekend with a group of friends. Location is beautiful with stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Bedrooms are luxurious with all en-suite. Great open plan area for entertaining. The villa has all the amenities that one would need to cook and entertain. High quality sound system allows you to bring the party outside while sitting around the fireplace and admiring the beauty surrounding you. Would highly recommend.”

“What a spot! Most beautiful location, hosted by a brilliant team. We were 10 friends and couldn’t ask for more. The rooms are phenomenal, each with a breathtaking view of the mountains in the area. Sound and cinema tech that makes a superb party atmosphere. Cooking facilities cater for every need and we got through a lot of wood around the outside fire pit. A short walk to the wine cellar was an absolute treat and we finished the weekend with a marvelous brunch at the nearby bistro. What a place, just WOW!”

Unforgettable

“What a wonderful and unforgettable experience to spend a few days at The Residence. We were a family of 9 and enjoyed the luxury of the 6 en-suite bedrooms. We enjoyed every minute we spent in this marvelous home and, at the same time, were overwhelmed by the beauty of the surroundings. Although situated very near Franschhoek, Stellenbosch and Paarl, we got the feeling of being “far away” and in the midst of nature. Surrounded by mountains and trees, we sat for quite a while on the edge of the big dam(with an island in the middle), to watch the bird life at this exquisite spot in nature. In weeping willow trees along the water’s edge, many nests were being built by birds. We felt privileged to be there at the beginning of spring time! The members of my family who are exercise fanatics were impressed by, and made full use of, the well equipped gymnasium in the house. The book lovers among us(hopefully all) enjoyed the great number of books available. And all of us appreciated the lovely breakfasts we had: at times that suited every member! 

Last but not least: we were overwhelmed by the friendly welcome we received from the house  manager, Corné. We felt at home immediately and appreciated his thoughtfulness during our stay. What an excellent manager and staff at The Residence. Do I/we recommend The Residence? Of course!(See above!) Especially for family get-togethers or group outings. Five big, bright stars! Great Family Weekend

Our whole family went here for a weekend in September! We were 4 couples and 2 children. Perfect for the 6 rooms, all en-suite bathrooms. We braaied outside, grilled on the veranda, and made huge fires in the fireplaces. They also have a nice lapa next to a quaint dam with all the birds in the world congregating there. Great views, 5-star rooms! Fantastic interior! And 24/7 security.

This place was like a fairy tale. Everything so beautiful and well kept. I mostly enjoyed the endless wine supply from the surrounding vineyard :). The manager was amazing, nothing too difficult. Highly recommend!

A Stay in Heaven

“I always thought that a trip to heaven(or the other place!) would be the last thing on my bucket list but having spent 4 glorious days at The Residence I have got there early. The glorious setting as you drive through the gates is only enhanced by the wonderful warm welcome from Corné and his team. The lovely spacious rooms, the indoor/outdoor feeling of the entertainment area, the luxurious bedrooms and the just perfect setting are overwhelming as you first are shown round the property, then the joy of choosing which bedroom you want, all of which have stunning views, makes the first hour a feast for the eyes and your senses. My wife and I were there to have 4 relaxing days and visit the local area and we could not have chosen a more delightful place to call home for that time. Wonderful breakfast served on the terrace, a beautiful clean and warm pool to swim in, colorful gardens to walk around and a location right at the heart of the winelands all contribute to stress melting away and your life balance being restored. Our most magic moments were every evening as the sun set we lit the fire by the side of the lake and looked up at the stars, a glass of wine in hand and listened to the sound of the birds and frogs all settling down for the night. Corné and the team are super accommodating , helping us to maximize our enjoyment of the area and feel as though this really was home. 5 stars on every count – we just wish we could award more.”

“We (group of friends) stayed at The Residence for 2 nights and it was an unbelievable place! The house is extremely big with 6 en-suite bedrooms spread over 2 floors, large living/dining areas to hang out, both inside and outside, a big lawn with a playground, a fire pit, and outside grill area and pool. It is fully equipped with everything you need and the manager Corné and the team of housekeepers were very helpful and made sure our experience was memorable. For instance we were all there for our friend’s wedding weekend and hadn’t planned our dinner the first night , Corné the house manager really helped us to coordinate by ordering and even picking up our dinners from the next town. Everything was perfect and we would definitely come back again! Definitely recommend this villa to everyone who’s visiting that area!”

Wonderful peace of heaven with great staff

“We stayed at The Residence @ Vrede & Lust for a week as part of a wedding in March 2020(last week pre-Covid). The setting is absolutely stunning and the house offers a great retreat away from the busy crowds, serving wonderful wines.

The house is staffed by a helpful team that takes care of every wish and serves an outstanding breakfast in the morning.

Now that Covid-19 has hit the world I think back at the time there, and remember it as a place that would be perfect to lock up for a week with family and friends, enjoying the amenities without much of a need to venture out.

The nearest town is a bit of a drive away. We enjoyed using the large outdoor BBQ and wonderful internal kitchen, but on our next visit we would consider hiring a cook for our time there.

I highly recommend this place, for a large group of friends. The rooms are huge and spaced far apart. This property is unique because it offers privacy when desired, but with large common areas for the group to convene.”

“Arriving at the palatial gates, the garden view takes your breath away. We were welcomed by General Manager Corné Yzel who ensured that we were taken care of throughout our stay greeting us each morning with cappuccinos and a delicious healthy and hearty English breakfast. The house is  luxurious and most comfortable. The music system superior. Outside, the bird life was our main attraction, the willows reflecting in the calm water. “We took some family and friends and decided to spend 2 weeks at The Residence for lockdown. The plan was to work, connect, relax and enjoy what the Residence has to offer. It was a stay that we will cherish forever. Every single detail was impeccable, the property is one of a kind, the flow of the home, the multiple, ever-burning fires, the friendly staff, the world-class chef (Corne), the beautiful wine (drink the V&L Boet Erasmus) is but a few highlights. Cooking marshmallows under the stars at the outside boma on the bonfire next to the dam was something the kids won’t forget. Soccer games on the lawns and endless braai’s were the order of the day. From canoe trips on the dam, evening sundowners on the scenic deck, to cosy movie nights in the rain – we did it all, we took it all in and we will definitely be back!”

“Enjoyed a 1 week stay with friends and family at this fabulous location near Franschoek, situated in a large and lovely wine farm. It was a perfect location to take in the broader wine country in Franschoek, and Stellenbosch, and also about 50 minutes for the occasional drive to Capetown. From the multi-course breakfasts to the constant supply of lovely Pinot noir and champagne from the estate we managed to escape the realities of the outside world and enjoy a wonderful time. “Spacious and luxurious accommodation with world class views on all sides. It’s very quiet and peaceful yet close to Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. The house is well equipped for self catering as well as catered. The many fireplaces and the external fire pit make the house cosy. Corne and team are hospitable and make a huge effort. “My Husband and I were invited to a very dear and special Friends bday – we accepted of course without a clue of what we were in for. We knew it was on a farm somewhere and low key vibe with acoustics was on the menu!
But we were blown away!!!! We did not expect so much beauty Perfection and excellence all behind one closed door. I will highly and Definitely recommend this to anyone that is celebrating a big and special occasion.
